User Feedback
The User Feedback node allows a Workflow to ask the user a question and use their response in the next step.
Use it when your Workflow needs information from the user before continuing, such as a department, region, preference, or a yes/no decision.
The user can respond using Single choice, Multiple choice, or Text.
Add the User Feedback node from the Logic section of the node list.
How the User Feedback Node Works
When the Workflow reaches the User Feedback node:
- The configured Question is shown to the user.
- The user provides an answer using the selected response type.
- The response is stored and made available to later nodes.
- If a Final Node Response is configured, it is shown after the user answers.
- The Workflow continues to the next connected node.
For example:
Start → User Feedback → If / Else → AgentYou can ask:
Which department do you need help with?
The user can select Billing, Technical Support, or Sales. The Workflow can then use the selected answer to determine what happens next.
The User Feedback node pauses the conversation while waiting for the user’s response. It does not generate an AI answer or search a Knowledge Base.
Add and Connect User Feedback
To add a User Feedback node:
- Open the Workflow canvas.
- Find User Feedback under Logic.
- Add the node to the canvas.
- Connect the previous node to User Feedback.
- Connect User Feedback to the next node.
A common setup is:
Start → User Feedback → If / ElseYou can also send the answer directly to an Agent:
Start → User Feedback → AgentThe User Feedback node supports one incoming connection and one outgoing connection.
Configure User Feedback
Select the User Feedback node to open its configuration panel.
When the node has not been configured, the panel displays Add.
After saving a question, the panel shows a summary of the configuration, including:
- Question
- Selection Type
- Options, when applicable
Select Add to configure the node for the first time or View / Edit to update an existing configuration.
User Feedback Settings
Select Add or View / Edit to open the User Feedback Settings dialog.
The settings allow you to define what question to ask, how the user can answer, and how the response should be handled.
Name
The Name identifies the User Feedback node on the Workflow canvas.
It is only for your reference and is not shown to the user.
For example:
Choose Support DepartmentThe name is required and must contain at least 3 characters.
Question
The Question is the message shown to the user.
For example:
Which department do you need help with? The question is required.
Try to keep questions clear and specific so users know exactly what information they need to provide.
Selection Type
Selection Type determines how the user can answer the question.
| Selection Type | User response |
|---|---|
| Single choice | Selects one option |
| Multiple choice | Selects one or more options |
| Text | Types a free-text answer |
The default selection type is Single choice.
Single Choice
Use Single choice when the user should select only one answer.
Example:
Which department do you need help with?
○ Billing
○ Sales
○ Technical SupportThis is useful when the Workflow needs one clear value to determine the next step.
Multiple Choice
Use Multiple choice when the user can select more than one answer.
Example:
Which services are you interested in?
☐ Web Development
☐ Mobile Development
☐ UI/UX DesignThe user can select one or more options.
Text
Use Text when the user needs to provide a free-form answer.
Example:
What is your order number? The user can type their answer instead of selecting from predefined options.
When Text is selected, the Options section is not displayed.
Options
The Options section is available for Single choice and Multiple choice.
Each option contains:
- Label
- Value
- Description (optional)
Select Add Option to add another choice.
Label
The Label is the text the user sees.
For example:
BillingThe Label is required.
Value
The Value is the internal value stored by the Workflow when the user selects the option.
For example:
BILLINGUse short, stable values that are easy to work with in later Workflow nodes.
| Label | Value |
|---|---|
| Billing | BILLING |
| Technical Support | TECHNICAL_SUPPORT |
| Sales | SALES |
If an If / Else condition already uses an option’s Value, avoid changing that Value later. The condition may depend on the exact value.
Description
The Description is optional helper text shown below the option label.
Use it when users need additional context to understand an option.
For example:
Billing
Questions about invoices, payments, or subscriptions.Final Node Response
The Final Node Response is an optional message shown after the user submits their answer.
For example:
Thanks! We'll use this information to connect you with the right team. The message is shown to the user and stored after the response is collected.
Leave this field empty if you only need the user’s answer and do not want to display an additional message.
Allow Skip
Allow Skip allows the user to continue without answering the question.
It is disabled by default.
Enable it when the answer is optional.
For example, if you ask:
What is your preferred contact method?and the information is not required, enabling Allow Skip lets the user continue without selecting or entering an answer.
Store in Chat
Store in Chat controls whether the question and the user’s response are stored in chat history.
It is enabled by default.
| Setting | Result |
|---|---|
| On | The question and answer are stored in chat history. |
| Off | The question and answer are not stored in chat history. |
Execute Once Per Session
Execute Once Per Session controls whether the question should be asked again if the Workflow reaches the same User Feedback node more than once during a session.
It is disabled by default.
When enabled:
- The question is asked the first time the Workflow reaches the node.
- The user’s answer is stored for the session.
- If the Workflow reaches the node again, the previous answer is reused instead of asking the question again.
This is useful when the same information is needed in multiple parts of a Workflow.
Use the User’s Answer in Later Nodes
The response collected by User Feedback can be used by later nodes.
The main value is {user_answer}.
| Value | Description |
|---|---|
{user_answer} | The user’s answer. This is the main value to use. |
{user_question} | The question that was asked. |
{user_answer_list} | The selected answers as a list. For a text response, this contains one item. |
Use the Answer with If / Else
You can use the answer to create different Workflow paths.
For example:
Start
↓
User Feedback
↓
If / Else
├── Billing → Billing Agent
├── Sales → Sales Agent
└── Support → Support AgentIn the If / Else expression, use {user_answer} and compare it with the option Value.
For example:
{user_answer} = "BILLING"Use the Answer with Agent
You can also provide the user’s answer to an Agent through its System Prompt.
For example:
Start → User Feedback → AgentThe Agent prompt can use:
The user's selected department is {user_answer}.
Use this information when responding to the user. This allows the Agent to personalize its response based on the information collected.
Use the Answer in Another User Feedback Node
A later User Feedback node can also use the previous answer when the next question depends on it.
For example:
Start
↓
User Feedback
↓
User FeedbackThe second question can use information collected by the first question.
Common Workflow Examples
Route Users by Department
Use User Feedback to ask which department the user needs.
Start → User Feedback → If / Else → AgentQuestion:
Which department do you need help with?Options:
- Billing
- Sales
- Technical Support
The If / Else node can then route the user to the appropriate Agent.
Collect a Region
Use User Feedback when the response should determine which part of the Workflow runs.
Start → User Feedback → If / ElseQuestion:
Which region are you located in?The user’s answer can then be used to select the appropriate Workflow path.
Collect Free-Text Information
Use Text when the user needs to provide information that cannot be represented by predefined options.
Start → User Feedback → AgentQuestion:
Please enter your order number. The Agent can then use {user_answer} in its prompt.
What the User Feedback Node Does Not Do
The User Feedback node does not:
- Search a Knowledge Base.
- Generate an AI response.
- Choose between multiple Knowledge Bases.
- Evaluate conditions by itself.
- End the Workflow.
Use the appropriate node for each task:
| Requirement | Node |
|---|---|
| Search stored documents | Knowledge Base |
| Generate an AI response | Agent |
| Choose between Knowledge Bases | Auto Orchestrator |
| Ask the user for information | User Feedback |
| Create conditional paths | If / Else |
| Stop a Workflow path | End |
User Feedback at a Glance
